Espoo's outdoor islands: Iso and Pieni Lehtisaari plus Sumparen

This begins a new series: over the coming years, I will introduce all the islands in Espoo that can be visited. First up is a trio of islands: Iso and Pieni Lehtisaari, and Sumparen. Let's start our exploration with Sumparen, as it has one of the finest spots in Espoo. Initially, a view to the northeast. Notice the Tuomela boatyard, where boats were built until the 1960s (now private property).

Viewpoints in Espoo: Laajalahti Birdwatching Tower

The Villa Elfvik nature tower is located in Laajalahti, in the middle of a beautiful nature reserve. This picture shows the unique feature of the birdwatching tower: both the path to the tower and the access to the lowest platform are accessible.

Viewpoints in Espoo: Jäniskallio in Nuuksio

A somewhat surprising viewpoint in Espoo can be found on the shore of Nuuksion Pitkäjärvi. On the west side of the lake is Jäniskallio. The hill doesn't seem very high when you climb it, but you reach a surprisingly high point, and the views are quite impressive.

Viewpoints in Espoo: Stora Herrö observation tower

Welcome to one of the finest places in Espoo. The Stora Herrö lookout tower offers stunning views. The tower is situated on a rock, and the scenery opens up in nearly all directions. Stora Herrö can be reached by archipelago boat in the summer. Here is a picture of the tower looking almost directly northeast. In the foreground on the right is Rövargrundet

The Beaches of Hanko: Plagen

Plagen Beach, Hanko

Plagen Beach in Hanko is especially popular with families. And why wouldn't it be? There is a water carousel visible in the background and seemingly also rafts to climb on. Additionally, the beach is shallow and open to the south, so the water warms up surprisingly much on sunny days. With its central location, who wouldn't like this beach?

The Beaches of Kirkkonummi: Syväjärvi

Syväjärven uimaranta, Kirkkonummi.

Syväjärvi beach is located just a couple of kilometers south of Kirkkonummi's center and is considered to be the most popular beach in Kirkkonummi. Although Syväjärvi is a small lake, as its name suggests, it is also deep.
