The Beaches of Lohja: Karstu

Karstu beach is located in the village of the same name, between Lohja and Karstu.

The city of Lohja stopped maintaining the beach in 2020 due to budget cuts. The beach is on private land, and for now, the local heritage association maintains it. Read more here. Hopefully, there will be clarity on the beach's use so that Lohja could support the association that maintains it.

So, the status of this beach may change.

In the background, you can see the historic Karstu fortress hill. I really wanted to visit it as well, but my hot and tired children had other plans. So, visiting there will have to wait for another time.

The facilities are great. Swings, changing rooms, a nice shelter, a volleyball court, and grassy areas for playing.

There is also a small fireplace.

• Address: Not sure. Turn off Joenpellontie around point 74. Note: Not Onnelantie, which runs quite close by.
• Amenities: Playground, pier, changing rooms.
• Tips for swimmers: A nice, charming beach that you can combine with a visit to the cultural-historical fortress hill. The future of the beach is uncertain, so check the status before your visit.
