Espoo's outdoor islands: Kaparen
The second kayaking trip of the summer of 2015 with a childhood friend in the Espoo archipelago took me to Kaparen. Although it rained the entire July, apart from a few heavy showers, the weather was great for this trip, and it shows.
Kaparen is located about three kilometers south of Suokanniemi. Nearby are two popular recreational islands, Rovaren and Stora Herrö. Kaparen is not accessible by archipelago boats.
There is firewood available. You can manage here. However, camping is prohibited.
To the south is the small Kabarkobben.
Looking directly south, a few more islands are visible on the horizon. The islands on the right are part of the archipelago off Porkkalanniemi, and in the center, you can already see the open sea.
Kaparen also has a sheltered grill hut that meets Espoo's standards. It is a very convenient structure with two solid walls, so you can genuinely warm up by the fire, and a larger group can fit under the shelter in case of rain.
Kaparen, like many other recreational islands in Espoo, has forests and quite rugged landscapes.
Here is the view from the western edge looking almost directly north. On the left is Stora Herrö, ahead is Pentala, and somewhere back there is Soukanniemi.
Here is the eastern shore and the view approximately northeast.
There is also a somewhat surprising beach meadow in the bay.
Rövaren is peeking out in the background. You can get there by archipelago boats.
To the west, you can see two recreational islands, Gåsgrundet and Knapperskär.
Finally, here is a picture taken from the neighboring island of Rövaren, with Kaparen in the foreground.
