Espoo's outdoor islands: Tvijälp
Welcome to one of Espoo's most impressive and surprising outdoor islands, Tvijälp. Tvijälp is located in Espoo's archipelago, less than 200 meters from Westend. The journey is short, but the island offers a world of its own.
The southern edge of the island has impressive cliffs with beautiful sea views. Here's a view roughly to the southeast.
Tvijälp is 13.4 hectares in size. The island features cliffs, coastal meadows, and both deciduous and coniferous forests.
To the north, you can see Keilaniemi.
When you descend from the cliffs to the middle of the island, the landscape changes completely. First, you encounter a shallow, reedy bay.
Then, you find coastal meadows and deciduous forest. This area was apparently cultivated for personal use during the "fishing era."
Otherwise, the island is used for recreation, but there are two summer cottages—and the remains of a third.
The north shore has a small sandy beach, which would have been an excellent spot to land a kayak. A small downside to this swimming spot: it hardly ever gets any sun.
There was a surprise in the forest. Who recognizes the logo? It looks vaguely familiar, and it's been a couple of decades.
Then back to the top of the cliff.
