Hiking trails of Helsinki Region: Hanikka Trail, 5 km Circle Trail in Espoo on the seaside
Hanikka nature trail is perhaps the most versatile of Espoo's nature trails. The five-kilometer route features seashores, rocks and hills, forests, and duckboards.
This photo series follows the order in which I took the pictures, so starting with this photo, we circled the entire nature trail. The starting point was the parking area near Hanikka beach, but of course, the trail can be started from anywhere along its route.
In some area the Hanikka trail is joined with "regular" outdoor trails, so it's important to keep an eye out for the yellow nature trail markers.
The nature trail is marked with yellow signs or colors, depending on the situation.
The duckboards lead to the seashore on the eastern side of Suinonsalmi.
This is Kimlahti's viewpoint. It offers splendid views to the north, and the tall chimneys belong to the Suomenoja power plant.
If you take a little detour from the nature trail, you can visit the Hanikka bird tower.
The seashore is often traveled on picturesque duckboards.
In my opinion, the most exciting part of the nature trail is along its northern edge. It features a wetland by the seashore, duckboards, lots of deciduous trees, and beautiful sunshine.
The trail crosses Vanha Riilahdentie and soon goes over Soukanväylä.
Then, we begin to climb Soukankalliot.
The trail is well-marked, even on the rocky parts of it.
