Municipal Elections 2025

I am a candidate in the municipal elections in April 2025. The main election day is Sunday, April 13, 2025. Early voting in Finland is from April 2 to 8, and abroad from April 2 to 5.

I hold a master's degree in political science and am a practical nurse by training. I have extensive experience in the NGO sector. I have also been involved in municipal politics for a long time. I have been, among other things, a member of the Espoo city council. Currently, I am a member of Espoo's Growth and Learning Committee. The committee makes decisions especially related to schools and kindergartens.

(1) Invest in Espoo's schools and kindergartens!

We need dozens of new kindergartens and several new schools to keep up with Espoo's population growth in the 2030s. Older facilities also need renovation.

I have been raising this issue for a long time in various forums. Most recently, in the summer of 2024, I brought it up in Helsingin Sanomat, sparking a broader societal discussion.

(2) Local libraries are importaint

We must maintain the current library network, but new local libraries are also needed as the city grows. 

I have been advocating for Espoo's library network for decades. I believe I was among the first to propose small libraries for Suurpelto and Saunalahti. Both were later built.

(3) Efficient public transport

A growing city needs functional public transport. Rail connections are the backbone of public transport, but efficient bus routes are also necessary. It's especially important to align services with public transport – people should be able to get to school or the health center by bus.

My approach to improving public transport is through dialogue and careful research. For example, when planning the feeder routes for the West Metro, I reviewed the plans line by line and neighborhood by neighborhood, and published 14 and later 7 detailed analyses.

(4) Respecting history

When building new, we must respect the old. I am familiar with Espoo's history and will ensure it is taken into account.

Espoo is a wonderful city to which I am very attached. I talk more about this in my blog Espoo is a great place to be and live. I have published tens of thousands of pictures of Espoo on these pages and donated thousands more to the Espoo City Museum. I know Espoo well.
