Viewpoint in Espoo: Leppävaara
Welcome to Leppävaara in Espoo. Just north of the station, about half a kilometer from Sello, you'll find fortifications that are presumably called the Leppävaara Fortifications. They are part of the fortifications surrounding Helsinki, built in the 1910s.
The first pictures are from the northern edge, where the fortifications blend well into the terrain. There are plenty of trenches here.
When you reach the top of the rocks, the views are impressive. The tower on the right is a residential tower located at the edge of Sello.
No desire to swim there.
As is often the case in Espoo, the nearest rocky pine forests are always close by. The Vallikallio fortification area is incredibly peaceful and also a large area, where it doesn’t feel at all like you’re in the middle of Leppävaara.
By the way, those "pools" are fenced off for safety, and it's a good thing. A five-meter drop and a few meters of murky water is always a bad combination.
Finally, two pictures from the edges of the area. On the south side, the nearest apartment buildings are right next door. I believe there are old, partially overgrown fortifications between the apartment buildings.
On the northern edge, on the right are Laurea's facilities, and on the left a new ice rink. Just head up between them, and you can enjoy the atmosphere.
