Viewpoints in Espoo: Stora Herrö observation tower
Welcome to one of the finest places in Espoo. The Stora Herrö lookout tower offers stunning views. The tower is situated on a rock, and the scenery opens up in nearly all directions. Stora Herrö can be reached by archipelago boat in the summer. Here is a picture of the tower looking almost directly northeast. In the foreground on the right is Rövargrundet.
The lookout tower is in the middle of the island. A few winding paths cross Stora Herrö. It is not easy to get lost, but you might not always know exactly where you are.
The lookout tower is not very high, but when situated in a sufficiently elevated location, it is enough.
This view is almost directly west. Notice perhaps the ferry to Travemünde or Stockholm on the horizon. The aforementioned Rövargrundet is in the foreground.
To the southeast are Rövaren and Kaparen, which have their own photo series on my site.
No good scenic photos can be taken to the southwest and west because the forest obscures the views.
This is a picture looking almost directly north. First, in the foreground is Pentala, then in the background, Espoonlahti. In the picture, you can see Espoonlahti's water tower on the left. To the right, you can see white apartment buildings, which I believe are in Soukka. The cliffs in Soukka are high.
Here is another picture towards Espoo. In the distance are Suvisaaristo and then Matinkylä.
Then back to the ground. On the eastern edge of the island, there are magnificent cliffs. So, the view is available. These pages also feature a more extensive photo series of Stora Herrö and pictures of the island's beaches.
The lookout tower is located in the middle of the island.
The tower indeed offers breathtaking views. It is perched on a rock, and the scenery opens up in nearly all directions. This is one of my favorite places in Espoo.
To the southeast are Rövaren and Kaparen, which also have corresponding photo series.
