Viewpoints in Helsinki: Vuosaarenhuippu

One of the finest viewpoints in the Helsinki metropolitan area is Vuosaarenhuippu, in english probably Vuosaari Landfill Hill. At its highest point, the hill rises to 65 meters.

To the southeast, you get a great view of Vuosaari's port area. I also love the islands in the background, which you can see past. It makes you realize how high up you are.

Looking south. Note the ship behind Uutela.

Toward Vuosaari's center, the Cirrus (i.e., Vuosaari's tower building) dominates the landscape. Behind it is the Aurinkolahti residential area.

The so-called old Vuosaari area is also clearly visible.

In practice, Vuosaari’s former landfill is a series of hills like this one, with Vuosaarenhuippu being the highest. It's a great place for wandering.

To the north, the view is very different: forest and a charming farm.

There is also an accessible route to the top, but we were in a more adventurous mood. Here is the climb up, which reminds me - quite rightly - of the Acropolis in Athens. A steep hill, with rocks and sandy paths, and even heat (not always true in Vuosaari, but often in Athens).

Some of the hills are still under construction; I believe soil from Kalasatama is being brought here.
