Malminkartano Hill, or more commonly known as Malminkartano Landfill Hill, is located in western Helsinki. As you might expect, the views are spectacular.

One of the finest viewpoints in the Helsinki metropolitan area is Vuosaarenhuippu, in english probably Vuosaari Landfill Hill. At its highest point, the hill rises to 65 meters.

Welcome to Leppävaara in Espoo. Just north of the station, about half a kilometer from Sello, you'll find fortifications that are presumably called the Leppävaara Fortifications. They are part of the fortifications surrounding Helsinki, built in the 1910s.

Welcome to Friisinkallio. In Espoo's Olari, you'll find rather impressive cliffs, accompanied by a nature reserve and a swamp.

The Ilomäenpuisto fitness stairs are located in Laajasalo's Yliskylä, in Ilomäenpuisto.

Alakivenpuisto's fitness stairs are located in eastern Helsinki, in Myllypuro. Myllypuro's sports park is pretty much below the hill.

Kalkkikallio is a very fine rocky area in Kuninkaalan, Vantaa. From Kalkkikallio, you can also enjoy impressive views.

Nuuksio now features a new accessible outdoor trail called Maahisenkierros. From Solvalla, near the Haltia Nature Center, you can access this trail, which leads to a high observation deck. As a teaser, I won’t start the photo series with a parking lot picture but instead give you a taste of what can be found along the trail.

Welcome to Lähderanta in Espoo. The Laaksolahti fitness trail connects to the shoreline route along Lake Pitkäjärvi at Lähderanta, and it's quite impressive. But just out of curiosity, I took the first picture along the way, combining a great vantage point with ruins, which makes it a bit tempting, doesn't it...

Welcome to Suomenoja in Espoo. The Suomenoja bird ponds are popular among birdwatchers, but it's also a great outdoor area. Here are some pictures - believe it or not - from Boxing Day 2015. 

Iso Vasikkasaari is located just outside Matinkylä in Espoo. This charming outdoor island can be reached by archipelago boat. Iso Vasikkasaari covers 24 hectares and is primarily used for outdoor activities. The island is ideal for day trips, and overnight stays are prohibited.

Welcome to perhaps the most beautiful of Espoo's outdoor islands, Gåsgrundet. A photo series of a walk around the island will follow shortly, but first, here's a rocky view from the southeast coast of the island.

Welcome to the Espoo archipelago. Rövargrundet is a sparsely wooded rocky islet located south of Espoo's Suvisaaristo. In the background, you can see Stora Herrö, which might help some people pinpoint Rövargrundet's location.

Welcome to one of Espoo's most impressive and surprising outdoor islands, Tvijälp. Tvijälp is located in Espoo's archipelago, less than 200 meters from Westend. The journey is short, but the island offers a world of its own.

Welcome to Espoo's Korkeasaari. Korkeasaari is located right near the Helsinki border, just barely within Espoo's waters.

Pentala is an impressive destination. The 130-hectare island features an old fishing village turned into a museum, a nature reserve, a couple of natural beaches, and a four-hectare lake. And you can reach it by archipelago boat!

Welcome to Stora Herrö in Espoo. This diverse outdoor island offers cliffs, forests, beaches, and, as the cherry on top, an observation tower with views over the archipelago. And since you can get here by archipelago boats, it's worth visiting.

Palettilampi Beach is Helsinki's newest beach. It is located in northern Helsinki, in the residential area of Kuninkaantammi.
